It’s semi-finals day at the Gold-level VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open 2023, as the last eight players standing look to book their spots in the finals at the OCBC Arena.

Play begins at 14:00 (GMT+8) on the all-glass court in Singapore, with every match available to watch live on SQUASHTV.

Georgina Kennedy v Nele Gilis

No.2 seed Kennedy and No.3 seed Gilis progressed to the semi-finals with straight game victories on day four of the Singapore Open, recording impressive wins over Salma Hany and Rowan Elaraby.

Both players are looking to reach their first final of the season, and after the shock exit of No.1 seed Nour El Tayeb, they will fancy their chances of picking up silverware from the Gold-level event.

The Belgian leads the head-to-head record, having won three out of their four meetings, however Kennedy came away victorious from their most recent five-game battle at the 2022 Windy City Open. Another five-game duel could well be on the cards here, with neither player likely to go down without a fight.

Ali Farag v Marwan ElShorbagy

Marwan ElShorbagy produced a quality performance to reach the semi-finals in Singapore after defeating older brother and defending champion Mohamed ElShorbagy in five games. However, the Englishman will have to replicate this performance again to stand a chance of upsetting World No.1 Ali Farag and reach the title decider.

After losing out in the U.S. Open final to Paul Coll, Farag has returned to winning ways in Singapore, defeating David Baillargeon and Youssef Soliman in straight games en route to the last four. Although Farag is edged out in the head-to-head stats, having won seven of their 15 encounters, the Egyptian has come out on top in his last three meetings against ElShorbagy.

Tinne Gilis v Sarah-Jane Perry

World No.10 Tinne Gilis was made to fight hard to reach her second semi-final of the season, battling back from a game down to defeat Sabrina Sobhy in a gruelling 71-minute clash.

Meanwhile Perry demonstrated her shot-making abilities to see off the threat of the in-form Sivasangari Subramaniam in four games to reach her first PSA World Tour semi-final since the Manchester Open in April 2022.

The Belgian No.2 and Perry have only played against each other three times on tour, with Gilis winning two of these matches. Both players will look to impose their contrasting styles of play on the match, and whoever succeeds in doing so could well end up taking the spoils.

Mostafa Asal v Diego Elias

World No.2 Diego Elias and World No.4 Mostafa Asal will square off in the last semi-final of the day – in what will be the pair’s tenth meeting on tour.

Peru’s Elias will have to overturn a rotten head-to-head record if he harbours ambitions of claiming the title in Singapore, having won just one match compared to Asal’s nine.

However, with Asal having spent 81 minutes on court during his four-game win over World No.5 Paul Coll, compared to Elias’ 44 against Fares Dessouky, the latter is likely to come into the match on far fresher legs. This match looks a justified curtain-closer and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this go all the way down to the wire.
