Todd Tears Through Tovar at Women’s Colombian Open

Number three seed Nikki Todd came up with a professional display to see off home hope Laura Tovar in the opening round of the Abierto Colombiano de Squash Club el Nogal, PSA W15 event.

Todd, who has only progressed past the first round once in her last seven PSA World Tour appearances, pulled away in the first game to take the lead with Tovar struggling to match the Canadian’s court craft.

Tovar did mount a comeback in the second game, levelling things up in the process, but couldn’t do enough to take control of the encounter and succumbed to an 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7 victory in Todd’s favour.

Toronto-based Todd goes on to the quarter-final where Diana Garcia awaits her after the Mexican No.2 powered past compatriot Ivonne Diaz while Catalina Pelaez ensured that she will contest the quarter-final on home soil with a 3-0 dismantling of Giselle Delgado.

Thaisa Serafini has reached the quarter-final stage for the first time in 2015 after a confident performance against fellow Brazilian Juliana Pereira where she rose to a straight games triumph.

Serafini has a tough encounter in store against second seed Samantha Teran up next with the victor certain to go up against one of Pelaez or Melina Turk in the last four.
