Tandon Sees off Top Seed Golan at CCI International to Reach Semi-Finals

9 November 2017

Tournament wildcard Ramit Tandon continued his impressive run of form at the JSW Indian Squash Circuit CCI International as he knocked out top seed, Spain’s World No.18 Borja Golan, to reach the semi-finals.

World No.201 Tandon – who saw off Qatar’s Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi in round one – was again in imperious form as the underdog fought back from 2-1 down to beat Golan in a gruelling five game encounter that lasted 89 minutes.

The Indian took the first game before Golan came back to take the next two. However, with the crowd on his side, Tandon was able to disrupt Golan’s flow in the game with the Spaniard unable to remain composed as Tandon secured a semi-final berth with an 11-8, 7-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8 win.

Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, Egypt’s Omar Mosaad was able to comeback from 2-0 down against home hope Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu to book his place in the semi-finals.

Sandhu took the first game by an 11-6 margin before Mosaad looked to come back strong but threw away a 10-5 lead to lose the second 12-10 and allow the Indian to double his advantage.
However, Mosaad’s experience proved the difference in the end as he was able to keep his composure to win 6-11, 10-12, 11-2, 11-8, 11-2 in 71 minutes.

The Egyptian will now face another Indian – Saurav Ghosal – in the semi-finals after he came through in four against Wales Joel Makin. Whilst Swiss Rocket, Nicolas Mueller comfortably made his way through to the next round with a straight games victory over Egyptian qualifier Mazen Gamal in 37 minutes.
