STT Petróleos Open 2023: Jorge Gomez Shocks Arturo Salazar on Day Two

World No.154 Jorge Gomez shocked No.4 seed and former World No.36 Arturo Salazar on day two of the STT Petróleos Open in Mexico City.

Gomez, who impressed in a 3-0 win over wildcard Edgar Zayas on day one, kicked on yesterday to dispatch his Mexican compatriot Salazar by the same scoreline in 38 minutes.

Gomez will take on No.7 seed Alejandro Reyes for a spot in the semi final after the 26-year-old overcame Carlos Vargas 3-1.

There was one more shock at the Squash Inn Club, with unseeded Guatemalan Alejandro Enriquez beating No.5 seed Jeremias Azaña of Argentina in straight games.

Elsewhere, top seed Leonel Cardenas of Mexico cruised through to the quarters with a comfortable win over Guatemala’s Luisa Quisquinay. Cardenas will play Quisquinay’s countryman Josue Enriquez in the quarter final.
