Stafford Slides into Nash Cup Main Draw

Cameron Stafford’s dominant win over top qualifying seed Matthew Serediak sees the Cayman Islands-based 23-year-old go through to the main draw of the Nash Cup, PSA M15 tournament.

Serediak tried to use his speed around court to overpower Stafford but the number six seed played a number of intelligent shots to open up space for himself. Some expertly placed drops from the back of the court allowed Stafford to build up a succession of points and he rose to an 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 victory to secure his place in the next round.

He will face the talented Peruvian Diego Elias in the opening round of the main draw in what is sure to be a difficult test given the World No.37’s immense ability.

Nicholas Sachvie is also through to the main draw after overcoming Sunny Seth in four games. The first game saw the pair mix up their shots impressively as they utilised a number of tight drives and clever drop shots. A 40 plus shot rally took place midway through the opener which Sachvie won to break his opponent’s resolve as he took the first game. Seth levelled things up by taking the second but unforced errors began to creep into his game as Sachvie pressed on to complete the 3-1 victory. He will line up against Declan James who is aiming to win his third PSA World Tour title on the bounce.

Elsewhere in the draw, Jan van den Herrewegen saw off Micah Franklin 3-0 to progress to the main draw where he will face off with Eddie Charlton.

Lyell Fuller will compete in the main draw action as well thanks to his straight games victory over David Baillargeon. The athletic Shawn Delierre will be his opponent for a place in the quarter-final.
