Springfield Scottish Squash Open: Preview & How to Watch Live

20 September 2023

The Springfield Scottish Squash Open returns to the PSA Challenger Tour calendar, taking place at the Inverness Tennis & Squash Club this week.

Action begins with round one on Wednesday September 20, with both the men’s and women’s finals taking place four days later, on Sunday September 24.

All four semi-finals plus both finals will be available to watch live on the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer this weekend.

The semi-finals are split into two sessions on Saturday, with session one kicking off at 2pm BST, and session two at 7pm BST. Sunday’s two finals will follow each other in a single session, which begins at 3pm BST.

Scottish hopes will be high for this event, with the top seeds in both the men’s and women’s draws hailing from Scotland.

Rory Stewart leads the field in the men’s side of the draw, having recently reached a career-high ranking of 42 in the world.

The Commonwealth Games silver medalist comes into this event having secured his first win at a PSA World Tour Platinum event less than two weeks ago, beating Iker Pajares Bernabeu at the QTerminals Qatar Classic.

Meanwhile, local boy Alasdair Prott will carry the hopes of his hometown on his shoulders, coming in as the No.7 seed just a few weeks after winning his maiden PSA Tour title in Australia.

In the women’s draw, top seed Georgia Adderley will be looking to go two steps better than in this event two years ago, when she was beaten in the semi-finals by Gina Kennedy.

Kennedy – then ranked outside the world’s top 50 – went on to lift the trophy and rocketed up the rankings soon afterwards. She was inside the world’s top 10 within six months of winning in Inverness and recently reached a career-high of No.6, perhaps providing inspiration for Adderley to follow.

The player Kennedy beat in that final was England’s Grace Gear, who enjoyed an impressive run to the final as the No.8 seed. She returns to the Scottish Highlands for this year’s edition as the No.2 seed, leading a quartet of English women that also includes Torrie Malik, Alicia Mead and Asia Harris.

You can stay up to date with the Springfield Scottish Squash Open all week long on the PSA Challenger Tour Facebook and X pages.
