Schweertman Sweeps Past Fuller at Gibraltar Open

Number one seed Piedro Schweertman fought off a dogged challenge from Lyell Fuller to advance from the quarter-final stage of the Gibraltar Open, PSA Challenger 5 tournament.

The event favourite dropped the first game to the Englishman who flew out of the traps but the Dutchman battled back impressively to scythe through Fuller and claim a 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 victory.

Schweertman is rewarded with a mouth-watering matchup with Spaniard Alejandro Garbi Caro who saw off Jakob Dirnberger in four games.

Elsewhere, Kristian Frost Olesen defeated Robert Downer to secure his semi-final berth. The Dane was superb throughout the pair’s fixture and he stormed to the victory in straight games.

Jan Koukal overcame Iker Pajares Bernabeu to ensure that he will join the aforementioned trio in the last four.

The Czech number three seed took the opening game courtesy of a tie-break but upped his game considerably in the second and third to set up a titanic clash with Olesen in the next round.
