Schweertman Strikes in France

Number three seed Piedro Schweertman lifted his first PSA World Tour title of 2015 after overcoming Pakistan’s Tayyab Aslam 3-1 in the final of the Open International d’Angers, PSA Challenger 10 event.

Schweertman was rampant throughout the duration of the tournament and comfortably dispatched the trio of Richard Williams, Carlos Cornes Ribadas and Geoffrey Demont to advance to the final without dropping a single game.

Aslam progressed to the final courtesy of a climactic encounter with Englishman Robert Downer. The seventh seed had eliminated tournament favourite Steven Finitsis in the previous round and pushed Aslam all the way, only to succumb to a tight 3-2 defeat.

The effort that was expended in his semi-final fixture seemed to weigh heavily on Aslam in the first game as Schweertman fought to claim the advantage but World No.86 Aslam, who was also looking for his first PSA World Tour title of the year, battled back to level things up by winning the second game.

That proved to be as good as it got though for a tiring Aslam who fell to further defeats in the third and fourth games to hand Schweertman the sixth PSA World Tour title of his career.
