Sandhu and Nunn Are July Players of the Month

2 August 2017

India’s World No.65 Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu and World No.73 Christine Nunn of Australia have been named the PSA Players of the Month for July after both players managed title triumphs in Australia last month.

Chandigarh-born Sandhu, 29, made it four successive PSA World Tour titles after he prevailed at the South Australian Open and Victorian Open in July.

Sandhu had already won both the Malaysian Squash Tour IX and Nissan Open earlier this year and he collected a third Tour title in a row with victory at the South Australian Open, beating Ignacio Gutierrez Keen, Ko Youngjo, top seed Piedro Schweertman and Rhys Dowling in Melbourne.

Further success was to come for Sandhu as he took the honours at the Victorian Open with victories over Schweertman and Dowling once more to reach the title decider.

Sandhu came up against home hope and top seed Rex Hedrick in the final and, despite dropping the opening game 14-12 on the tie-break, he fought back to claim his ninth PSA World Tour crown.

Nunn, meanwhile, was also in title-winning form at the South Australian Open as she downed the top three seeds to claim her fourth Tour title.

The 26-year-old from Melbourne was seeded fifth for the tournament, but was in sparkling form to come out on top against top seed Tong Tsz-Wing and number three seed Jessica Turnbull to reach her seventh Tour final.

Nunn was pitted against fellow Australian Lisa Camilleri in the showpiece finale, where she powered to a 3-0 victory to capture her first title in two years without dropping a single game.
