Reda and Massaro are October Players of the Month

Egypt’s Mohamed Reda and former World Champion Laura Massaro have been named as the PSA Players of the Month for October after they both claimed PSA World Tour titles during the past 31 days, climbing the World Rankings in the process.

Reda kicked off the month in superb fashion, overcoming several top 100 players to clinch the Grays Norwegian Open 2015 in Oslo.

After battling through some tough early encounters against Mark Fuller and World No.51 Eddie Charlton, the Egyptian really hit impressive form at the semi-final stage, dispatching Denmark’s Kirstian Frost Olesen 3-0 to set up a final against number one seed Joe Lee.

Upsetting the tournament seedings, Reda swept aside his English opponent 3-0 to secure his first PSA World Tour title since November 2014.

Building on his success in Scandinavia, the World No.58 then travelled to India and performed exceptionally to seal the JSW Indian Squash Circuit Chennai 2015 title.

Only conceding one game throughout the entire tournament, Reda beat Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu 3-0 in the final, winning his second PSA title in October and completing a fantastic month on the PSA World Tour.

On the women’s tour World No.3 Laura Massaro was the outstanding performer in October, clinching the Delaware Investments U.S. Open title in Philadelphia after winning a series of titanic battles against her championship rivals.

After beating home favourite Amanda Sobhy 3-1 in round two, the 31-year-old set up a mouth-watering clash with eight-time World Champion Nicol David in the quarter-finals.

Falling 2-0 behind to her long-term adversary, Massaro clawed her way back into the match magnificently, levelling the scores at 2-2 before claiming a monumental decider 12-10 to complete a miraculous comeback.

The Englishwomen then outclassed World No.6 Omneya Abdel Kawy in the semi-final, winning 3-0 to secure a place in the final against rising star Nour El Tayeb.

The match provided an entertaining spectacle for the packed crowd in Philadelphia, with Massaro overcoming a 2-1 deficit to take the epic final 3-2, securing her first major PSA World Series title in 18 months – taking her to pole position in the ‘Road To Dubai’ World Series Rankings and closing the cap on World No.2 David in the World Rankings.
