Rösner Rolls Past Peter

16 April 2015

World No.10 Simon Rösner disappointed the capacity crowd at Zurich’s Puls5 venue when he knocked out local boy Reiko Peter 3-0 in an entertaining first round encounter in the 2015 Grasshopper Cup.

The 26-year-old World No.81 gave a sterling account of himself in the contest, appearing undaunted on the all-glass show court as he displayed an array of shot-making talents to cause the tall German difficulties throughout.

But in the end it was the gulf in class between the two that made the difference, with the experienced Rösner taking the opportunities presented to him to deny the crowd favourite a glimmer of hope in what was an important win for him following a disappointing first round exit at the recent El Gouna International.

“It’s always tough to get the first match behind you in a tournament especially against a local favourite who has the crowd in his pocket,” said Rösner.

“But I’m pleased to get through in three and not use up too much energy in the process.

“When you lose early in a tournament, like I did in El Gouna, it’s always important to get things right again as soon as possible and that’s my focus here. I’m not thinking too much bout winning and losing, I’m just focusing on my game and hopefully I can come back stronger.”
