Qualifying Begins in Nantes

The first qualifying round of the Open International de Squash de Nantes, PSA M10 tournament saw all but one seeded player make it through to the final round of qualifying.

Local player Johan Bouquet came up with the solitary upset of the day with a surprise 3-1 victory over Ireland’s Sean Conroy. World No.172 Conroy took the first game but struggled to deal with the Frenchman after that point as Bouquet slalomed to a 6-11, 11-2, 11-7, 11-8 triumph.

He will meet Iker Pajares Bernabeu in the next round after the Spaniard overcame Enzo Corigliano in straight games.

Top seed Jan van den Herrewegen is also through thanks to his triumph over Thomas Reboul and will face Joe Green who saw off fellow Englishman Sam Ellis.

Robert Downer blitzed to a 3-0 win against Yoan Autret while his opponent in the next round, Auguste Dussourd, dispatched Victor Crouin in straight games.

The other fixture in the final round of qualifying sees Edmon Lopez Moller take on Dani Pascual after the pair scored respective wins over Guillaume Doffagne and Stephane Brevard.
