Qatar Update: Marevelous Mazen Hesham Downs Mosaad In 3

3 November 2015

Extravagantly talented Egyptian youngster Mazen Hesham produced one of the performances of his career to down World No.6 Omar Mosaad 3-0 in the second round of the 2015 Qatar Classic in Doha.

The 21-year-old prevailed in a scandalously entertaining match that was full to the brim of dynamic rallies that saw both players unleashing a vast repertoire of shots. The first game epitomised what was to follows as the duo dragged each other around the court in some blistering exchanged as they moved into a tie-break, which Hesham edged to land the first blow.

The physical exertion continues apace in the second game which again went all the way to a tie-break, with the younger man again edging it after hitting a scandalous cross court nick to level at 11-11 and power home. As Mosaad began to make more errors in the third Hesham continued to press and sealed it after 51 entertaining minutes.

“I’m really happy with my performance,” said Hesham. “I really didn’t expect to play that well against someone as good as Omar.

“I have been seeing the physio for the last few days with a niggle in my shoulder so I wasn’t expecting to play like that at all but when I got on court I didn’t feel it and I think I played some of my best tonight.

“The injury maybe made me more relaxed before the match and I think he was maybe a bit more tense – he is much better than he showed tonight and in those first two games especially I was lucky to get the last few points so my mum must have been praying hard at home for me.!

“I haven’t won a match here in five years and now I’m in the quarters of a World Series tournament and playing and winning on the glass court so I’m feeling awesome at the minute!”

Result:
Mazen Hesham (EGY) bt [4] Omar Mosaad (EGY) 3-0: 12-10, 13-11, 11-7 (51m)
