Unseeded Pakistani pair Kashif Asif and Abbas Shoukat achieved the biggest upsets in round three of the Men’s World Junior Individual Championships after beating seeded players Karim Magdy and Samuel Scherl, respectively in Bielsko-Biala, Poland.

Lahore-based Asif, 16, was on fine form to see off Magdy in a compelling 76 minute encounter courtesy of a 12-10, 11-3, 9-11, 11-1 victory.

Asif, the World No.227, will take on India’s Velavan Senthilkumar in the last 16 after the 18-year-old overcame Michael Mehl in straight games.

Shoukat, meanwhile, ensured that there would be no players from the United States in the fourth round after he defeated the country’s only seeded player, Scherl, in just 25 minutes, claiming an 11-8, 11-8, 11-6 triumph to set up a clash with US Junior Open and Asian Junior Championship winner Israr Ahmed, who dispatched Egypt’s Abdalah El Masry.

Title favourite Saadeldin Abouaish remains on course to play to his seeded after he eased past Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Yiu with a 3-0 victory. 19-year-old Iranian Sajad Zareian awaits the number one seed in the next round after he saw off Australia’s Alex Eustace.

Second seed Eain Yow Ng is also through to the fourth round after he defeated India’s Abhay Singh by a 3-0 margin and the World No.144 will clash with Tom Walsh who, alongside Charlie Lee, is one of two Englishman to advance to the last 16.

Defending champion Nouran Gohar sailed into the third round of the Women’s event after sweeping past Chan Sin Yuk 11-2, 11-5, 11-0.

Gohar will take on 18-year-old Zeina Mickawy in an all-Egyptian encounter next, with Mickawy being the only non-seeded player to reach the third round thanks to a 3-0 win over Lucy Turmel.

Hania El Hammamy, Sivasangari Subramaniam and Rowan Reda Araby also secured safe passage through to the next round after respective victories against Marija Shpakova, Saskia Beinhard and Fereshteh Eghtedari.

El Hammamy will line up against Hiu Lam Lui for a place in the quarter-final, while Subramaniam is set to take on Celine Walser. Araby, meanwhile, will do battle with Marina Stefanoni.
