Oxford Properties Canadian Men’s Open: Preview

12 February 2023

The Oxford Properties Canadian Men’s Open 2023 Presented by Airsprint Private Aviation gets underway from the Bow Valley Athletic Club in Calgary next week with 24 players looking to capture the Bronze event title.

France’s Victor Crouin is the top seed for the event and after reaching the quarter finals minimum of all of his previous six events, the Frenchman will be looking to capture his third title of the season and his second Bronze event. Crouin admitted that he is hungry for more titles as we caught up with him to discuss the event and future. His thoughts here.

Wales’ Joel Makin is the events No.2 seed and after suffering an injury at the end of last season has started to find some form on the PSA World Tour of late despite losing out in the Tournament of Champions second round to Nicolas Mueller. The physical Welshman has dropped outside the world’s top 10 and will be determined boost his chances of a return with a positive showing in Calgary.

Tour veterans Nicolas Mueller and Miguel Rodriguez occupy the No.3 and 4 seeding spots and are both still more than capable of causing upsets and claiming titles as they both showed earlier in the season as they won Challenger 30 events in Czech Republic and Australia.

The three Canadian players in the draw are led by World No.56 and Canadian No.1 David Baillargeon, who faces England’s Nick Wall on day one of the event. Wildcards Connor Turk and Nick Sachvie also feature on day one and they will look to upset the seedings as they play Balazs Farkas and Cesar Salazar respectively.

A women’s PSA Challenger Tour 10 event will be held alongside the men’s tournament, with Canadian No.2 Danielle Letourneau headlining the Expression Networks BVAC Women’s Open draw alongside the likes of Enora Villard, Nicole Bunyan and Marie Stephan.

All the men’s matches will be streamed live on SQUASHTV whereas the women’s Challenger 10 event will be streamed on the PSA Challenger Tour YouTube channel from the quarter finals onwards.
