Mostafa Asal & Nour El Sherbini Named PSA World Tour Players Of The Month

Egyptian duo Mostafa Asal and Nour El Sherbini have been named PSA World Tour Players of the Month for June.

Mostafa Asal impressively won both of the events he played in June, capturing the El Gouna International title for the first time in his career at the start of the month and then successfully defending his CIB PSA World Tour Finals crown to close out the season.

The new World No.3 came into the El Gouna International as the No.4 seed and defeated two of the World’s top ten players, Joel Makin and Diego Elias to reach the semi-finals. He then scored a big win against compatriot and World Champion Ali Farag for the first time in a best of five format to reach the final. The No.1 seed Paul Coll stood in his way but the 21-year-old produced a disciplined and strong performance to win in straight games and lift his second Platinum title.

Asal’s second event win of the month came at the CIB PSA World Tour Finals as he successfully defended his title storming to victory in Cairo. Asal moved through to the semi-finals after finishing second in his group behind Paul Coll. He then beat No.1 seed Ali Farag for the second time in the month 2-0 to set up another final with Paul Coll. After 76 minutes of brutal squash, Asal prevailed in straight games once again to retain the trophy.

Reigning World Champion Nour El Sherbini picked up her second CIB PSA World Tour Finals title in impressive style as she topped her group, beating Hania El Hammamy in the deciding match. She then stormed past World No.4 Amanda Sobhy to set up a repeat of the World Championships final against Nouran Gohar.

In a terrific performance, El Sherbini took the title, winning in straight games against the World No.1 to become a two-time World Tour Finals Champion and end the season in great form.
