Malaysian Tour Qualifying Kicks Off

The majority of seeded players progressed from the Malaysian Tour Squash VI, PSA M5 tournament with a couple of upsets disrupting the day’s expected results.

Ampandi Muhammad Aqif stole the headlines after he bridged a 37-place gap in the World Rankings to dispatch Pakistan’s Umar Balaj Malik with an emphatic 3-1 victory. The duo played out two tight opening games before Aqif pulled away to secure the win.

Number one seed Ranvijay Singh will be his opponent in the final round of qualifying after he received a bye to the next round.

Syed Ali Mujtaba Shah Bokhari is also through after a commanding straight games victory over Sam Gould. The Pakistani snuck into the lead courtesy of a tie-break in game one but he raised his game to triumph in three. Ryan Pasqual awaits him after he swept past Marcus Wei Jie Sim with a shock 3-1 result.

Elsewhere, Tsun Hei Yuen defeat Mir Hamza Gul and will meet local player Mivesh Kumar after he claimed a walkover against Sandeep Ramachandran while Ong Sai Hung and Mohd Farez Izwan will face off for a place in the main draw after the latter defeated Puvendran Subramaniam and the former benefitted from a walkover against Haikal Aiman.
