Letourneau Lunges Past Thomson in Women’s Nash Cup

Danielle Letourneau starred on home soil with a commanding straight games victory over seventh seed Alison Thomson in the opening round of the Nash Cup, PSA W5 tournament.

The 22-year-old was irrepressible in the opening game as she built up a lengthy lead with some fine attacking squash near the front of the court. Thomson recovered from the early shock in the second and third games and ran Letourneau close in both before succumbing to an 11-4, 11-9, 11-9 victory in the Canadian’s favour.

She will face tournament favourite Maria Toorpakai Wazir in the quarter-final after the number one seed received a walkover in round one.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Letourneau’s compatriot, Melina Turk, however as she fell to a 3-0 defeat against Chile’s Giselle Delgado. Delgado will face second seed Mille Tomlinson, who dispatched Holly Delavigne in three, in the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Hollie Naughton and Victoria Temple-Murray will face off for a place in the semi-final after victories over Laura Savage and Arden McKillop, respectively.

Cyrielle Peltier defeated Micaala Seth 3-1 while Nikki Todd saw off Paula Jenkins to ensure that she will face the Frenchwoman in the quarter-final.
