Kuwait International SF: Almezayen and Dussourd To Contest Final

28 September 2022

The knockout week continues for wildcard Abdullah Almezayen on home soil, as he is through to the final of the 1st Kuwait International Squash Championship, where he will now take on top seed Auguste Dussourd for the Challenger 10 level title.

Ahead of the semi-finals, the Kuwaiti wildcard had beaten three higher-ranked players, including World No.49 Mazen Gamal in the last eight of the competition. The semi-finals saw him take on Hungarian No.1, and the tournament’s No.3 seed, Balazs Farkas.

It was Farkas, who claimed the Madeira International crown earlier this month, who took the opening game to hold the first lead of the contest. Almezayen fought back to the delight of the home crowd, though. After losing the first 11-8, he came back to win the next three games to take the victory in four. In doing so, he booked his spot in the final of the competition, his first since 2018.

He will now take on top seed Auguste Dussourd in the final on Wednesday evening in Hawally, after the Frenchman cruised to victory in his semi-final over Egypt’s Khaled Labib. Dussourd, who delighted the home crowd at the Open de France de Squash a couple of weeks ago, dropped just nine points in his last four contest with Labib. He won 11-5, 11-1, 11-3 in just half an hour to advance to the final.

The final of the 1st Kuwait International Squash Championship will take place on Wednesday, September 28, with wildcard Abdullah Almezayen taking on the tournament’s top seed, Auguste Dussourd, for the Challenger 10 level title in Hawally, Kuwait.
