King Withdraws From Upcoming Open de France de Squash

9 September 2022

New Zealand’s World No.5 Joelle King has pulled out from the upcoming Open de France de Squash, which will take place from September 12-17 in Nantes, France, through injury.

The Kiwi also withdrew from the South Western Women’s Open, which is currently ongoing in Houston, Texas, United States.

King was the top seed for the women’s draw at the Bronze level event, meaning that there is a whole raft of changes to the draw. Belgium’s Nele Gilis moves up to become the top seed, with younger sister Tinne now the No.2 seed, with the pair now seeded to meet in the final on September 17.

Frenchwoman Melissa Alves moves into the top four seeds, with Nicole Bunyan taking her spot in the 5/8 seeding bracket, and receiving a bye through the opening round’s play.

Egypt’s Kenzy Ayman moves into the 9/16 bracket, replacing Bunyan, and she will now face compatriot Salma Eltayeb. Egypt’s Nardine Garas comes into the draw, and takes Ayman’s original spot. She will take on Swiss No.1 Cindy Merlo in the opening round on September 12.
