Douglas Kempsell kept up his recent fine form with a strong 3-1 victory over Joshua Larkin in the final of the North Coast Open, PSA M5 tournament to claim his second PSA World Tour title in his last four appearances.

The Scotsman had claimed his final berth after commanding victories against Mike Corren and Ben Grindrod in the quarter-final and semi-finals, respectively while Larkin moved past Thomas Calvert and Martin Svec to secure his spot in the showpiece event.

However, it was Larkin who started the better of the two as the Australian utilised a number of well timed cross court efforts to catch his opponent off guard. Kempsell settled in the second though and dictated the pace of the game with his forehand volleys in particular on point.

Kempsell kept his composure in a highly-charged third game to climb to an 11-6 win and go 2-1 up against Larkin who was fighting to stay in the match on home soil.

Gruelling and physically demanding rallies dominated the fourth game with Larkin looking to bring the match level after he had a game ball during the tie-break. Kempsell’s tenacity though saw him edge the game to take his third PSA World Tour title after a 5-11, 11-8, 11-6, 13-11 triumph.

“I’m very pleased and relieved at the same time,” said Kempsell.

“It’s the last tournament before I head home tomorrow. I’m so happy to get a win in my last event. Physically it was a tough battle and credit to Josh for never giving in and pushing me to the limit.

“I can put my feet up now and relax.”
