‘It’s Always A Huge Honour To Play For England’ for Alison Waters

At the end of another season, the PSA’s Matt Coles has been talking to the stars of the PSA World Tour about their 2018/19 campaigns. Here he catches up with England No.2 Alison Waters.

World No.11 Alison Waters had an up-and-down 2018-2019 campaign, as she dropped out of the World’s top ten, but reached the semi finals of a couple of events.

The Englishwoman, who played for her country at both the World Team Championships and the European Team Championships, said that it could have been a better campaign.

“Overall it was a mixed season for me. I reached my seeding in all bar two events but it was also disappointing as I don’t feel like I really challenged the top girls as much as I should have done,” Waters said.

“My highlight was being selected to play for England at the Women’s World Teams Championships in China, my sixth World Team event. It’s always a huge honour to play for England.”

She helped the team to a runners-up finish at both World and European Team events, but some of her favourite performances were individual ones on the PSA World Tour.

Waters believes she played her best squash in two particular matches, with one of those even being a defeat to France’s No.1.

“Two matches standout for me. Losing a big battle 3-2 vs Camille Serme at the first event of the season in China,” she explained.

“Even though I lost I felt my training on the physical and technical work that I had put in over the summer really showed in this match.”

“The other match was beating Tesni Evans 3-2 at the Tournament of Champions. Another big match where we both left everything out there and I can say from both of us that we were tired for days!”

Waters started the campaign inside the top ten, and she wants to get back there over the 2019-2020 season. The Englishwoman will then look for even more, and she wants a top eight berth in the World Rankings.

“[My goal is] to get back into the top eight in the world and really challenge the top girls. With some hard work over the summer I believe this is possible,” the Englishwoman stated.
