Hunt and Gaultier Named PSA Players of the Month for January

2 February 2021

Australia’s Tamika Hunt and France’s Gregory Gaultier have been named the PSA Players of the Month for January following their respective title wins on the PSA Challenger Tour.

Hunt reigned victorious at the Sandgate Open in Deagon, Australia after she defeated compatriot and No.2 seed Sarah Cardwell in straight games in the final to win her tenth PSA title despite not having a PSA ranking going into the tournament.

The 27-year-old had not played on the PSA Tour for three years, with her last event coming at the 2018 Roberts & Morrow North Coast Open, where she reached the semi-finals. Her absence from the Tour was due to injuries, taking a different career path to squash and also the birth of her daughter last year.

Her win meant that she has been a notable mover on the women’s tour for the February World Rankings and now sits at No.123.

Former World No.1 Gaultier, meanwhile, takes the men’s award after January saw him win two PSA Challenger titles and take his grand haul up to 44 PSA titles which means he now sits fifth on the all-time men’s winners list.

Gaultier’s victories came at the Expression Networks Enjoy Open and the Czech Pro Series 1, defeating Egypt’s Mazen Gamal and Czech Republic’s Jakub Solnicky respectively in each final.

His victories means that the Frenchman continues his rise up the World Rankings following his career-threatening injury and now sits at No.33 – his highest since May 2019.
