The semi-finals of the MAA Invitational, PSA M5 tournament saw no surprises as Jaymie Haycocks and Michael McCue, seeds one and two, respectively, booked their places in the showpiece event.

McCue may have a physical advantage going into the final as he comfortably dispatched David Baillargeon 3-0 in just over half an hour in an all-Canadian affair. McCue was consistent throughout, and managed to take control of the ‘T’ in the opening exchanges to rack up some early points.

Home favourite Baillargeon was unable to cope with the dominance of McCue and the pressure told as unforced errors crept into his game. Despite an attempted fight back in the third, McCue held on to the lead and the World No.123 saw out an 11-3, 11-3, 11-7 victory to reach his first ever PSA World Tour final.

“I played really well tonight and only made one error in the first two games,” said McCue.

“I moved Dave to all corners and maintained high pressure on him. I was a bit nervous about the chance of making it to my first final and it’s tough being the favourite against a player who’s got the home crowd behind him.”

World No.84 Jaymie Haycocks meanwhile had a slightly more arduous encounter in his semi final match against Ashley Davies. Haycocks stormed into a 2-0 lead, using his experience to showcase an array of shots that were perfect on the slow court. Davies managed to pull a game back with a fine performance in the third but it only served to spark Haycocks into life and he took the fourth to reach the final.
