Hany and Adnan Named PSA Players of the Month for March

3 April 2018

Egypt’s World No.28 Mayar Hany and Malaysia’s World No.35 Nafiizwan Adnan have been named the PSA Players of the Month for March after both players enjoyed title success.

21-year-old Hany secured back-to-back titles at the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week and Queen City Open, beating England’s Fiona Moverley and Egypt’s Nada Abbas, respectively.

The Egyptian – who had not won a title since her maiden PSA World Tour crown at the Seattle Open in 2016 – defeated top seed Moverley by an 11-9, 17-15, 11-8 scoreline in Calgary to secure her biggest PSA title win to date.

Hany then backed this up with victory at the Queen City Open as she saw off compatriot Abbas in 64 minutes to win 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 14-12 and claim her second PSA W15 title in as many weeks.

The Cairo-born 21-year-old rounded off the month with a semi-final finish at the Novum Energy Texas Open Women’s Squash Championship.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Adnan also enjoyed a successful March as he reached the final of the Montreal Open, finishing runner-up to Spain’s Borja Golan, before going on to lift the Manitoba Open PSA M15 title.

Adnan – who was the number six seed – stormed through the field to reach the final in Montreal, knocking out Egypt’s Karim Ali Fathi and Germany’s Raphael Kandra along the way – who were both seeded above him – before falling short to top seed Golan, who completed a 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6 victory to claim the title.

However, the 31-year-old came back strongly and continued his good run of form to secure his first title since the 2016 HKFC International at the Manitoba Open.

The Malaysian dropped just one game to reach the final and went on to defeat top seeded New Zealander Campbell Grayson by an 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4 scoreline in a gruelling 63 minute battle to secure his 11th PSA World Tour title.
