English World No.128 Joe Green overcame compatriot and number five seed Lewis Doughty in straight games to progress to the last four of the BTMI Barbados Open, PSA M5 tournament in Christchurch.

The opening stages featured a series of attritional rallies as both competitors sought to move each other off the ‘T’ and wear the other player down. Green, 21, managed to build up a string of points towards the end of games one and two and narrowly opened up a 2-0 lead.

Green dominated proceedings in the third game though and dropped just three points as he wrapped up an 11-9, 13-11, 11-3 victory to reach the last four of a PSA World Tour event for only the second time in his career.

Watford-born Green is yet to appear in a Tour final, and faces Mexico’s Fernando Magdaleno, who beat second seed Cameron Stafford, next as he looks to advance to the showpiece finale.

Meanwhile, Bermuda’s Micah Franklin and English qualifier Laurence Green will contest the other semi-final after they rose to respective wins against Antonia de la Torre and Julian Morrison.
