‘Great To See My Ranking Improving’ For Lucas Serme

As we reach the end of another season, the PSA’s Matt Coles has been talking to the stars of the PSA World Tour about their 2018/19 campaigns. Here he catches up with Frenchman Lucas Serme.

Coming up for five years inside the top 50, and Lucas Serme is happy with how things have been progressing in his squash career to date.

The Frenchman reached a career-high World No.32 in October of this season, but he admits that he wishes he would have been able to break the top 30 barrier.

“It’s obviously great to see my ranking improving, it shows that i’ve had good results lately,” Serme said.

“But it was also frustrating not to break into the top 30, which would have been a milestone.”

Despite the lack of a top 30 berth in the World Rankings, Serme feels like he performed at a consistent level throughout the 2018-2019 season.

“I feel I’ve been somewhat consistent in my performance throughout the season,” the Frenchman added.

“I lost only one match against a lower ranked player in the entire season, but otherwise always finished the tournaments according to my seeding or better.”

Along with the level of consistency that he managed to achieved throughout the campaign, the Frenchman has a couple of particular memories that he recalls.

“Beating Declan James in the first round of the ToC in January in New York is pretty big as it is my only win against a top 20 player this season,” he explained.

“Reaching the last 16 of the British Open was also quite a special feeling for me.”

Serme admits that this season has motivated him, and he knows what he can do on a squash court already. The Frenchman’s goal for next season takes that, and pushes it forward some.

“This season has really motivated me for some reason, more than any other in the past, and I really plan to use that motivation and work harder than I ever have,” Serme said.

“I simply want to win more matches, go further in every tournaments, and the ranking will improve as a result. I know I can beat the top guys, as I’ve done it before, but it’s about doing it more than just once a year.”
