Gawad and ElShorbagy Headline Draw For Pittsburgh Open 2024 

The draw for the Pittsburgh Open 2024 has been announced, with World No.6 Karim Abdel Gawad and World No.8 Marwan ElShorbagy confirmed as the top two seeds for the PSA World Tour Silver event. 

The tournament will take place at the Rivers Club, Pennsylvania, between February 7-11, with all action available to watch live on SQUASHTV. 

Egypt’s Gawad has been in imperious form so far this season, capturing the Grasshopper Cup and Malaysia Cup titles and rising up to World No.6 in the process. The No.1 seed is set to begin his campaign against one of Ibrahim Elkabbani or George Parker, and is also found in the same quarter of the draw as No.5 seed Adrian Waller. 

After reaching the final of last year’s event, ElShorbagy will have his eyes on going one better in the 2024 edition, with the Englishman drawn as the No.2 seed. The 30-year-old is yet to claim a title this campaign but has reached at least the quarter-finals in each of his last five PSA World Tour events. After receiving a first-round bye, ElShorbagy is due to play one of Faraz Khan or Rui Soares in the last 16. 

Elsewhere in the draw, Egyptian duo Youssef Soliman and Youssef Ibrahim have been named as the third and fourth seeds, respectively. Soliman, in particular, will have fond memories of playing at the Pittsburgh Open, having defeated Ali Farag on his way to the semi-finals in 2023. The World No.12 may have the chance to exact revenge on his eventual conqueror from last year, ElShorbagy, with the pair scheduled to meet in the semi-finals if the event were to go to seeding. 

There is a trio of American players named in the draw, with Andrew Douglas, Todd Harrity and Faraz Khan all in action in the first round, while the top eight seedings are rounded off with Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar, France’s Sebastien Bonmalais and India’s Ramit Tandon.
