Finitsis On Form In France

Top seed Steve Finitsis led the way as all eight seeds dominated the opposition in the opening round of the Open International d’Angers, PSA Challenger 10 tournament taking place in France.

World No.58 Finitsis overcame Edmon Lopez Moller in a straight-forward 11-8, 11-9, 11-6 victory whilst second seed Piedro Schweertman, the Dutchman who took out England’s Adrian Grant last time out in Guatemala, put another Englishman to the sword, powering past Richard Williams 3-0.

Finitsis faces Robert Downer in his quarter-final clash after the seventh seed beat Jon Geekie and Frenchman Geoffrey Demont will be hoping to impress on home-soil when he encounters Schweertman in round two.

Tayyab Aslam also made it through after a retirement from Baptiste Masotti cut their game short. The Pakistani 18-year-old was two games ahead and leading 6-4 in the third before the Frenchman was forced to abandon his efforts of a comeback. Aslam meets February PSA Player of the Month Daniel Poleshchuk in the quarter-final stage after the Israeli dispatched Bernat Jaume in a superb five-game encounter.

Carlos Cornes Ribadas joins the top seeds in the next round after he beat Wildcard Enzo Corigliano and he clashes with fellow Spaniard Alejandro Garbi Caro as the pair aim for the semi-final.
