ElShorbagy Goes Top of Road to Egypt Standings After Third NetSuite Victory

Following his third victory at the Oracle NetSuite Open in San Francisco, England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy has moved to the top of the men’s CIB Road to Egypt standings.

The CIB PSA World Tour Finals includes both a men’s and women’s tournament featuring eight players each and brings together all PSA World Tour Platinum title winners. Any remaining places are allocated to the highest ranked players on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, with points on offer at all PSA World Tour events during the season.

ElShorbagy had already guaranteed himself a spot at the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals thanks to his victory at the QTerminals Qatar Classic in September. His second win of the season came in San Francisco on Tuesday evening and the points earned from his third NetSuite title have pushed him to the top of the CIB Road to Egypt standings.

‘The Beast’ now has 4,385 points from his three events, with Frenchman Victor Crouin in 2nd place in the standings on 3,670 points. Egypt’s Ali Farag sits in the No.3 spot, but has also assured himself of a spot following his victory at the CIB Egyptian Open earlier this season.

After reaching the final in San Francisco, Marwan ElShorbagy is up to No.4, and ahead of Diego Elias (No.5). Mostafa Asal (No.6), Paul Coll (No.7) and Tarek Momen round out the top eight in the standings.

In the woman’s standings, USA’s Amanda Sobhy has moved up into the top two following her third Oracle NetSuite Open victory. She has jumped up two places, and now has 3,025 points through three events.

World No.1 Nouran Gohar remains at the top of the CIB Road to Egypt standings thanks to her win in Houston and making the final at the Pyramids. She has 3,560 points.

Hania El Hammamy has dropped down to No.3 in the standings, but is already guaranteed of a place at the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals following her victory at the CIB Egyptian Open last month, where she defeated Gohar in the final in front of the Pyramids.

Nour El Tayeb (No.4), Nele Gilis (No.5), NetSuite finalist Farida Mohamed (No.6), Salma Hany (No.7) and Canada’s Hollie Naughton, who made the semis in San Francisco, are in the top eight spots.

World No.3 Nour El Sherbini, who has only featured in one tournament so far in the 2022-2023 season, currently sit at No.10 in the standings, behind the USA’s Olivia Fiechter.

The next event on the PSA World Tour will also be the next opportunity for players to guarantee themselves of a spot at the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals. The Platinum level U.S. Open will take place at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center from October 8-15. All the action will be live on SQUASHTV.
