World No.144 Eain Yow Ng became the first Malaysian since Ong Beng Hee in 1998 to win the Men’s World Junior Individual Championships after triumphing over top seed Saadeldin Abouaish in Bielsko-Biala, Poland – while defending champion Nouran Gohar prevailed in the Women’s final.

18-year-old Eain Yow, who was just six months old when former World No.7 Beng Hee became Malaysia’s first ever World Junior Champion, sealed his place in the final after notable wins against the likes of Commonwealth Youth Games silver medallist Velavan Senthilkumar and British Junior U17 champion Youssef Ibrahim Abdallah.

Meanwhile, Abouaish had survived two five-game battles with Iran’s Sajad Zareian and Frenchman Benjamin Aubert before seeing off US Junior Open champion Israr Ahmed to reach the final.

Eain Yow and Abouaish were meeting for the fifth time since 2011 in international junior tournaments, with Eain Yow winning three of their four previous clashes.

Both players won a game apiece in the final, but Eain Yow pulled away in games three and four to record an 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5 victory, writing his name into the history books in the process.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Ng.

“Becoming World Junior Champion is something I’ve dreamed about since I started playing squash, but to actually do it, it’s like a dream. I went into the match not thinking about winning or losing, just about playing my game and seeing what happened. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friends, family and coaches, so thanks to all of those!”

The Women’s final was contested by World No.5 Gohar and fellow Egyptian Rowan Reda Araby in what was the sixth successive year that the showpiece fixture had been an all-Egyptian affair.

Gohar, who was making her third straight final appearance after being a runner-up in 2014, hadn’t lost a single game in the build up to the final and the 18-year-old maintained her splendid form to power to the win by an 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 scoreline, becoming only the fourth woman to win the prestigious title twice after Nicol David, Raneem El Welily and Nour El Sherbini.

“I can’t believe it,” Gohar said

“To win it more than once and join the legends who have done this before, it’s a dream come true. It was a tough match, Rowan played well, but I’m just so happy to finish my junior career with this win.”
