Defending Champion Wall Tops Draw For Charlottesville Open 2024

3 September 2024

The draw for the Charlottesville Open 2024 has been released, with England’s Nick Wall returning to defend his title at the Copper-level event, which will take place between 24-28 September at Boar’s Head Resort.

Wall, who defeated compatriot Nathan Lake in last year’s title decider, has been named as the top seed, with Egyptian duo Yahya Elnawasany and Karim El Hammamy named as the No.2 and No.3 seeds, respectively.

World No.35 Wall will get his campaign underway against one of Salah Eltorgman or Alejandro Enriquez after receiving a first-round bye, before a potential quarter-final bout against Mexico’s Cesar Salazar, if the event were to go to seeding. The other seeded players in the top half of the draw include Egypt’s No.8 seed Aly Hussein, and El Hammamy, the latter of whom will play one of Moustafa Elsirty or Diego Gobbi in Round 2.

In the bottom half of the draw, No.2 seed Elnawasany will face either Joseph White or Ben Smith in his opening match, with the likes of No.6 seed Ryunosuke Tsukue and No.4 seed Rory Stewart potential quarter-final and semi-final opponents. Meanwhile, Egypt’s No.7 seed Ibrahim Elkabbani will look to continue his fine early season form that saw him win the 15k Bremer Schlussel 2024.

There is one qualifying position still to be filled in the main draw, with England’s Tom Walsh awaiting this player in the first round. Home interest at the Charlottesville Open comes in the form of World No.71 Spencer Lovejoy, who will have his eyes on trying to capture a first-ever title on home soil.
