Costa North Coast Open: Idrakie & Khanna Claim Titles In Coffs Harbour

20 August 2023

Malaysia’s Addeen Idrakie and India’s Tanvi Khanna produced terrific performances yesterday on finals day of the Costa North Coast Open as they overcame Velevan Senthilkumar and Chan Yiwen, respectively, to lift the Challenger 12 titles.

Khanna overcame compatriot and No.2 seed Joshna Chinappa earlier in the tournament and after losing the opening game to Yiwen, showed great determination and resilience as she played the big points very well, making no errors and hitting hard into the back corners. After taking the second and third games both 12-10, Yiwen was running out of ideas in the fourth game, which allowed Khanna to move ahead and take the game 11-8 to lift her third PSA title.

The men’s final was sure to be an exciting encounter with plenty of action to the front of the court as Addeen Idrakie took on Velevan Senthilkumar. Idrakie has been in great form all event and managed to hang on well to take the opening game 11-8 after establishing a lead earlier in the game. He then steamrolled Senthilkumar in game two, restricting the Indian to just two points as he took a 2-0 lead to place one hand on the trophy.

Senthilkumar battled back in the third game and returned to the level that had taken him through to the final but Idrakie could not be stopped. The Malaysian used his speed and touch at the front to always keep his Indian opponent on the move and always looked dangerous when he had half a chance. Idrakie won 11-8 to win in straight games and earn an eight career title.
