Colleyville Open: Knudsen & Singh Score RD1 Upsets In Texas

Two upsets took place on the opening day of the Life Time Colleyville Open yesterday as Canada’s Syan Singh and Colombia’s Matias Knudsen claimed victory over seeded players to move into the quarter finals of the Challenger 3 event.

Sean Singh was up first and from the very first point it was clear that the younger Singh was too much to handle for Mexico’s Armando Olguin. The match was fast paced with amazing shot making and retrieving from Singh. He dominated the match winning in only 16 minutes and knocking off the No.7 seeded Olguin to book a place in the last eight.

Singh will face top seed Saeed Abdul in the next round after the Pakistan No.1 seed needed all five games to overcome England’s Nick Sutcliffe. Abdul was pegged back twice by Sutcliffe but prevailed in the deciding game wining 11-9 in 52 minutes.

Colombia’s Mathias Knudsen scored the other seeding of the day as he confidently defeated Pakistan’s No.3 seed Hamza Sharif in straight games. The South American wasted no time in his pursuit of a quarter final place as he completed the win in just 22 minutes, restricting Sharif to just 11 points across the three games. Knudsen now faces No.5 seed Ziad Sakr, who also needed just three games to overcome USA’s Vandrick Inman-Benavente.

There were also wins for other seeds Taylor Carrick, Mahmoud Abouelleil, Abdul Malik Khan and Sebastian Salazar. None of the quartet surrendered a single game against their opposition as they advanced to the last eight.
