Elias Tops Latest CIB Road To Egypt Table

24 October 2022

Peru’s Diego Elias has moved to the top of the CIB Road To Egypt Table in the hunt for a place at the CIB PSA World Tour Finals.

The CIB PSA World Tour Finals includes both a men’s and women’s tournament featuring eight players each and brings together all PSA World Tour Platinum title winners. Any remaining places are allocated to the highest ranked players on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, with points on offer at all PSA World Tour events during the season.

The Peruvian, who was already guaranteed his place in Egypt after winning the Platinum-level U.S. Open title earlier this month, has climbed to the top of the rankings after reaching the semi-finals of the gold-level Grasshopper Cup.

The 25-year-old now has 5,715 points, just enough to edge him ahead of England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy, who did not play in Zurich but has already qualified for the World Tour Finals thanks to his QTerminals Qatar Classic win.

Ali Farag is at number three and is the only other player to have officially qualified following his CIB Egyptian Open win.

Meanwhile, Nour El Sherbini has climbed three places up to second in the women’s CIB Road to Egypt standings after she won her first tournament of the season, the gold-level Grasshopper Cup.

That win, though, has not been enough to reel in current World No.1 Nouran Gohar, who has already qualified for the World Tour Finals after winning the U.S. Open.

Hania El Hammamy, who El Sherbini beat in the Grasshopper Cup final yesterday, also climbs a place up to third. The 22-year-old is the only woman besides Gohar to have qualified, with El Hammamy winning the first women’s Platinum event of the season, the CIB Egyptian Open.
