Challenger Tour Weekly Preview: Events In The Americas

For the third week in a row, there will be two tournaments taking place on the Challenger Tour, with both being held in the Americas.

Over the weekend, Saran Nghiem took the title at the Open Costa Brava Squash Project in Santa Cristina D’Aro. Meanwhile, Nour Megahed and Ameeshenraj Chandaran were the victors in Malaysia, winning the PSNS President’s Trophy.

This week, we have action coming from both the British Virgin Islands and the United States. The Carey Olsen Tortola Classic returns for its second edition, while the J.P. Morgan LBSQUASH Summer Pro takes place on American soil.

Here is what is taking place on Tour this week…

Carey Olsen Tortola Classic

The British Virgin Islands plays host to the Challenger Tour once again this week, with the Carey Olsen Tortola Classic returning for its second edition.

Hungary’s Balazs Farkas won last year’s competition, the first to be held on the Caribbean island. Spain’s Bernat Jaume will be the top seed this week, with Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and the American duo of Andrew Douglas and Spencer Lovejoy rounding out the top four seeds.

Malaysia’s Sanjay Jeeva, Mexico’s Leo Vargas, Frenchman Laszlo Godde and Canada’s Cory McCartney will be the other seeds for the event. Joe Chapman, a former top 100 ranked player, will be the leading home hope, one of several in the draw.

J.P. Morgan LBSQUASH Summer Pro

The sole women’s event on Tour this week will be the J.P. Morgan LBSQUASH Summer Pro. Greenwich Academy will play host to the Challenger 5 level women’s competition, which will get underway on Tuesday, June 13.

Egypt’s Malak Khafagy will be the tournament’s top seed, with India’s Akanksha Salunkhe and Hungary’s Kincso Szasz joining home hope Caroline Fouts in the top four seeds.

Fouts will be one of eight Americans in action on home soil in Greenwich this week. Riya Navani, Arisha Khan and Madison Ho will be among the others featuring. Egypt’s Salma El Aify and Ingy hammouda, along with Japan’s Erisa Sano Herring, make up the rest of the top eight seeds.
