Challenger Events Round-Up: Laksiri & Singh Win Kolkata Crowns; Ayaz Triumphs in Colleyville

HCL Squash Tour – Kolkata 2024 

Ravindu Laksiri and Anahat got their hands on silverware for the second time in the space of three weeks, winning the HCL Squash Tour – Kolkata titles. 

The pair won the respective men’s and women’s titles at the Reliance PSA Challenge 3 Tournament on Laksiri’s home soil in Sri Lanka a fortnight ago, and followed that up with glory in Singh’s native India. 

Not only did both players secure glory, but both did so in dominant style, with Singh not dropping a game all week, and Laksiri only losing one. 

Victory for the Indian teen sensation – wrapped up with an 11-5, 11-3, 11-7 win over Jemyca Aribado in the final – secures a fifth PSA Squash Tour title in her last six PSA events. 

Laksiri, meanwhile, is enjoying a similar run of form, with his success at the HCL Squash Tour – Kolkata being his fourth title since May. 

Life Time Colleyville Open 2024 

Pakistan’s Ahsan Ayaz clinched his second PSA Squash Tour title, beating Yash Bhargava to win the Life Time Colleyville Open. 

Ayaz’s only previous tournament win at this level came back in 2016, and he looked to be heading for defeat to Yee Xian Siow in the semi-finals, after losing the first two games. 

But he turned things around to produce a stunning comeback and win in five, setting up a final showdown with India’s Yash Bhargava. 

The first two games were split one apiece, but Ayaz took control from there, cruising through game three for the loss of just three points, before closing out victory 11-8 in the fourth.
