10 June 2024

After claiming the British Open for the first time in his career yesterday, Egypt’s Mostafa Asal has overtaken Paul Coll and Diego Elias to return to World No.2 for the first time since May 2023.

‘The Raging Bull’ was in fine form all week at squash’s most historic event, defeating Karim El Hammamy, Marwan Elshorbagy, Timmy Brownell and Paul Coll on route to the British Open fiNAL, before coming through an intense five-game battle with compatriot and World No.1 Ali Farag.

Asal has shown his top form over the past few months, reaching the final in each of his last five events and winning in two. The Egyptian teenager has admitted that he is desperate to return to World No.1 and wants to dominate the PSA World Tour. With the wind in his sails, it’s might be something to watch out for next season.

Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng produced a sublime performance against World No.6 Karim Abdel Gawad in Birmingham last week, recovering from 2-0 down to claim a place in the last eight of the Platinum event. That win along with a strong finish to the season, has earned him the World No.13 position, the highest of the Malaysian’s career so far.

The other movers in the top twenty are France’s Victor Crouin, who has overtaken Youssef Soliman to move to World No.11, and Colombia’s always entertaining Miguel Rodriguez, who has jumped two places to World No.16.

The top eight players in the world have one tournament remaining as they will head to Bellevue, USA for the Xbox PSA World Tour Finals, which will take place from the 18-22 June.
