British Open 2024 – Finals: Preview, Stats & How to Watch Live

9 June 2024

The final Platinum event title winners of the 2023/24 season will be decided today in Birmingham as the 2024 British Open champions will be crowned.

One of the most intense rivalries ever to take place in the women’s game will add another chapter to its story in the women’s final as Nour ElSherbini and Nouran Gohar will compete in a fourth British Open final.

Defending champion Ali Farag features in another British Open final, taking on Mostafa Asal for the men’s title. The pair have met three times so far this season with Farag leading 2-1. Can he get his hands on a second British Open title or will Asal become the youngest winner in over 35 years?

Play begins at 15:00 (GMT+1), with all the action being shown live on SQUASHTV and on the channels of the PSA’s broadcast partners. Live scores will also be available here.

Order of play:

Nour ElSherbini v Nouran Gohar

For the 20th time on the PSA World Tour, Egyptian duo Nour ElSherbini and Nouran Gohar will lock horns to decide a title. Today’s clash will be the fourth British Open final that the pair have contested with ElSherbini winning all three previous matches.

Gohar has been in sublime form with confidence at an all-time high after beating ElSherbini to win the El Gouna International, followed up by another win over her in the biggest final of them all, at the PSA World Championships. It’s worth noting as well that Gohar has clinically dispatched other rival Hania El Hammamy in her last match and carries great form from that semi-final.

ElSherbini looks to have been hurt by that loss to Gohar in the World Championships and has shown no mercy so far this week despite a tough draw. The World No.1 will have been waiting for a chance to seek her revenge and it’s here in Birmingham.

Ali Farag v Mostafa Asal

A repeat of the recent El Gouna International final is set to entertain the Birmingham crowd tomorrow afternoon as Ali Farag and Mostafa Asal will lock horns for the 22nd time.

Farag holds a strong 16-5 lead over ‘the Raging Bull’ but Asal looks to be back to his best of late and will be hoping to repeat his Black Ball Open success to claim a first major title since December 2022. Farag is yet to drop a game so far this week and will hope to continue his ruthlessness to claim a second British Open title.

Mostafa Asal certainly had the tougher of the two semi-finals, beating Paul Coll in five games to round off yesterday’s action. The young Egyptian is determined to turn his good form into silverware and will be hoping he can have the crowd on his side as he looks to down the World No.1 for the second time this season.
