France’s Coline Aumard defeated home hope Rachel Arnold in the final of the Malaysian Tour Squash VII, PSA W5 tournament to lift her first PSA World Tour title of 2015.

Top seed Aumard, who was making her debut on the Malaysian Tour, didn’t drop a game en-route to the final with comfortable wins over Aika Azman and Hana Ramadan paving the way for her charge to the title. Arnold meanwhile overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Zulhijjah Binti Azan in the quarter-final before moving past Teh Min Jie in three to ensure that the top two seeds would do battle in the final.

Aumard came flying out of the traps as she aimed to build up an early lead, directing the ball with plenty of finesse as she stormed to an 11-5 victory in the fist game. Arnold put up a real fight in the second and, after a dramatic tie-break, levelled the scores.

26-year-old Aumard engineered some breathing room as she went on to take game three after some intelligent court position enabled her to dictate the tempo of the encounter.

The final game saw Arnold redouble her efforts in a bid to restore parity to proceedings but Aumard resisted a late charge to seal the victory by an 11-5, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9 scoreline to claim her maiden title of the new campaign.

“I’m so glad to win this tournament here,” said Aumard.

“The atmosphere here is so nice and the people here are also so friendly. I hope to come back here again in the future.”
