Aubert Axes Ford From Chateau-Arnoux Opener

Benjamin Aubert continued his tremendous form in his first ever PSA World Tour event by stunning England’s Ben Ford in the first round of the 3rd Open Squash Provence Chateau-Arnoux, PSA M5 tournament.

Aubert, the 17-year-old from France, is ranked 136 places below Ford in the World Rankings but didn’t let that bother him as he romped to victory in the opening two games. Ford managed to put himself within one game of Aubert after taking the third but the Frenchman held his nerve to claim an unlikely 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3 triumph.

Aubert’s reward is an impending quarter-final match-up with Mark Fuller who saw off compatriot Nick Mulvey in four games.

Jan Koukal came through a dramatic five-game-thriller with Aitor Zunzunegui to set up a clash with Chris Hall in round two while Joe Green did the same against Victor Crouin to ensure he will meet Robert Downer in the next round.

Meanwhile, top seed Chris Fuller saw off Charlie Lee and Hugo Varela defeated Norway’s Adrian Ostbye which means that they will face each other in the quarter-final.
