Asal Returns To World No.3 in PSA Men’s World Rankings

13 November 2023

Egypt’s Mostafa Asal has returned to World No.3 in the latest PSA World Rankings after his run to the final of the Ace Malaysia Squash Cup last week.

The former World No.1, who was playing his second event of the season, eventually lost out to Karim Abdel Gawad in the title decider after recording prior wins over Ryunosuke Tsukue, Saurav Ghosal and Ramit Tandon.

Asal, who lost his World No.3 ranking back in mid-October, has overtaken Paul Coll and Mohamed ElShorbagy to reach this position again.

Meanwhile Gawad, who captured his second title in as many events in Malaysia last week, remains at World No.6 but has closed the gap to the top five.

Spanish No.1 Iker Pajares Bernabeu has been rewarded after claiming the Open International Niort Venise Verte title over the weekend by climbing from 21st to 19th in the world rankings.

Elsewhere, Egyptian trio Mohamed ElSherbini, Fares Dessouky and Aly Abou Eleinen each move up two spots a piece, now sitting in 15th, 16th and 17th, respectively.

Swiss No.1 Nicolas Mueller has fallen three spots to World No.18, while recent QSF 4 champion Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi drops down to World No.20.

Outside of the World’s top 20, Ace Malaysia Cup semi-finalist Tandon has risen five places to a new ranking of World No.38, while Czech Open champion Patrick Rooney climbs up to 25th in the world.
