Asal & Gohar Claim PSA World Tour Players of the Month Titles For June

Recent PSA World Tour Finals champions Mostafa Asal and Nouran Gohar have been named as the PSA World Tour Players of the Month for June.

Both players started the month in the later stages of the El Gouna International and both came through mammoth semi-final encounters against Hania El Hammamy and Mohamed ElShorbagy to progress to the finals in the last Platinum event of the season.

Gohar then recorded a straight games win over surprise finalist Nele Gilis to claim the title, whereas Asal fell in his final to the man in form Ali Farag.

The Egyptian duo then moved onto the season’s curtain closer, the PSA Wold Tour Finals. An event that Asal has claimed for the last two seasons whilst Gohar was looking for a second title after winning in 2021.

World No.1 Gohar was up against familiar foe Hania El Hammamy for the title. With a title on the line, the match was as hard fought and as feisty as you would expect. After a huge 130 minutes (the longest women’s match ever on the PSA World Tour) it was Gohar who came out on top, winning 12-10 in the fifth game.

It was the World No.2 vs World No.3 in the men’s final as Mostafa Asal took on Peruvian Puma Diego Elias to attempt to retain his crown. Elias took a lengthy first game 11-9 but back came Asal, winning the next three games in great style to compete a hatrick of titles at the World Tour Finals and close and eventful season for himself on top.
