Anahat Singh Continues Quest For Maiden PSA Tour title at JSW Willingdon Little Masters & Senior Tournament

17 January 2024

India’s teenage squash star Anahat Singh continued her quest for a first PSA Tour title at the JSW Willingdon Little Masters & Senior Tournament in Mumbai after safely booking her spot in the final.

Singh, the women’s No.1 seed at the 3k event, produced a near-perfect performance to ease past No.4 seed Rathika Suthanthira Seelan by an 11-2, 11-2, 11-4 scoreline. The Indian national champion required just 16 minutes to secure the victory, meaning she has only spent a total of 33 minutes on court on her way to the final.

Singh’s opponent in the title decider will be No.2 seed Erisa Sano Herring, after the Japanese player came through a back-and-forth five-game semi-final against Sri Lanka’s Chanithma Sinaly. After losing the opening game 11-5, Herring fought back to retake a 2-1 lead in the match. And despite her opponent forcing a deciding game, it was the Herring who proved too strong in the latter stages of the match, sealing the fifth game by an 11-2 scoreline.

In the men’s event, No.1 seed Abhay Singh continued his faultless progress through the draw with victory over compatriot Om Semwal. After taking an even first game 11-7, Singh began to move through the gears, dropping just seven points over the subsequent two games and walking off court after 27 minutes of action.

The 25-year-old will square off against No.2 seed Suraj Kumar Chand for the title after the Indian player ended the run of Australia’s Remi Young. Despite losing the opening game, World No.170 Chand kept his cool to reel off the subsequent three games and seal his spot in the title decider.
