Abbas & Ibrahim Rise In PSA Women’s Rankings After Breakthrough Egyptian Open Performances

9 September 2024

Egyptian duo Nada Abbas and Sana Ibrahim have risen in the latest PSA World Rankings after breakthrough CIB Egyptian Open performances saw them record their best finishes at a major event.

21-year-old Sana Ibrahim now sits at No.20 in the world, a 12 place rise from last week. Ibrahim downed No.4 seed Nele Gilis in the second round of the opening major event of the season, the best win of her career to date. She then came through an all-Egyptian clash with Nour Heikal in four games to book a quarter final spot. She then lost out to fellow Egyptian Abbas in the quarter finals 3-1.

Abbas came through early round clashes with dangerous opponents Sarah-Jane Perry and Sivasangari Subramaniam to advance to the quarter finals and after defeating Ibrahim, faced World No.2 and the in-form Nouran Gohar for a spot in the final. Abbas found Gohar far too strong and had to settle for a 3/4 finish. Still the best finish for her in a major PSA event.

American duo Olivia Weaver and Amanda Sobhy have also risen in the latest standings. Weaver has benefited from Nele Gilis suffering an early loss in the Egyptian Open and has therefore overtaken her to move back inside the top four. Sobhy was featuring in her first event on the PSA Squash Tour since December. She defeated Rachel Arnold in her first match but was then put to the sword by No.2 seed Gohar but has still risen up a place to World No.9.
