Windsor Cup: Momen & Soliman To Contest Season-Opening Final In Canada

19 August 2023

It was a relatively quick day on semi-finals day at the 2023 Windsor Cup as top two seeds Tarek Momen and Youssef Soliman scored victories to move into the final of the first World Tour event of the new season in Windsor, Canada.

An Egyptian quartet lined up for the semi-finals with former World Champion, Momen, taking on big improver from last season Mohamed ElSherbini for the first place in the final. From the outset it was evident that something wasn’t quite right with ElSherbini, the usually smooth movement of the Egyptian was non existent, making it very easy for Momen to claim points. At the end of the second game, ElSherbini was unfortunately forced to retire injured, handing Momen his place in the final.

Momen’s opponent will be World No.12 Youssef Soliman who defeated up and coming compatriot Yahya Elnawasany in straight games. The youngster was competetive in the opening game and was able to step in front and take time away from Soliman and score some impressive winners. Soliman used his experience to play the big points well and steal game one 11-9. Soliman moved into top gear from the start of the second game and Elnawasany had to settle for just seven more points as Soliman stormed into another season opening final.

The final starts at 15:00 (GMT-4) with streaming available here.
