Windsor Cup 2023: Preview & How To Watch Live

14 August 2023

The first PSA World Tour event of the new season gets underway tomorrow from Canada as round one of the Windsor Cup commences from the Devonshire Mall in Windsor, Ontario.

The PSA World Tour Bronze event will feature 24 men, who will all be looking to start their 2023/24 campaigns in strong style and claim valuable World Tour points to boost their rankings in the season-opening event. Eight matches will take place on day one, with play starting at 13:00 (GMT-4) on the all-glass court.

Egypt’s former World Champion Tarek Momen tops the draw as he looks to win his first event since February 2020. A win which also came in Canada at the Toronto Cup where he overcame Paul Coll in a straight games victory. Compatriot Youssef Soliman is the No.2 seed for the event and will be determined to start the season the same way he did the last, as he claimed a win at the CIB ZED Open.

Japan’s Ryonuske Tsukue will take on USA’s Todd Harrity in the opening match of day one. The Japanese No.1 will be featuring in his first World Tour event whilst Harrity will be playing in his 82nd. Despite Harrity’s experience Tsukue put together some strong performances at the end of last season, meaning that it won’t be easy for the American to progress.

Another close match is anticipated in that quarter of the draw as Scotland’s Rory Stewart will face Colombia’s Juan Camilo Vargas. Stewart sits 11 places ahead of Vargas in the latest PSA rankings but it was the Colombian who scored the latest win as he overcame the Scot in the Bermuda Open 2022, coming from 2-1 down to win in 75 minutes.

Aside from the top two seeds mentioned earlier, the rest of the top eight will enter the fray on day two with the likes of Greg Lobban, Abdulla Al Tamimi and Leonel Cardenas due to face difficult opposition.
