Hany Cruises Into Semis in Canadian Women’s Open

29 March 2023

In the last match of the day, Salma Hany breezed through to the semi finals with a straight-games victory against Wales’ Emily Whitlock.

Just one month ago, the pair played out an intense second round clash in the second round of the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup, with Whitlock twice leading before Hany eventually triumphed 3-2.

Today, though, Hany was dominant from the beginning, with the 26-year-old needing just 23 minutes to secure her place in the final four as her pace and power proved too much for the Welshwoman.

Afterwards, Hany said: “I’m pretty happy with how I played today. Emily’s a very dangerous opponent and we played very recently and it was a huge battle. I just made sure I stayed solid from the beginning to the end.”

Result

[2] Salma Hany (EGY) bt [7] Emily Whitlock (WAL) 3-0: 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 (23m)
