WC Qualifying Asia SF: Finalists Confirmed In Kuala Lumpur

20 April 2024

The finalists of the Asia World Championships Qualifying event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were confirmed yesterday as the semi-finals concluded with players looking to secure places in the biggest tournament on the PSA calendar.

Both top seeds came through four game contests in the men’s event. Japan’s top seed Ryunosuke Tsukue claimed the first place in the final as he defeated surprise semi-finalist Bryan Tze Kang Lim from Malaysia. Lim levelled the tie after taking the second game 11-7, but Tsukue showed his class to claim the next two games 11-2, 11-8 to move one win away from a place in the World Championships.

Tsukue’s opponent will be Malaysia’s No.2 seed Adden Idrakie, who came through a 74-minute clash with Tang Ming Hong. Hong captured the first game 11-7 and was close to doubling his lead in the second game but Idrakie hung tough to claim it 13-11. The Malaysian was in control from there and won 11-5, 11-6 to earn his spot in the final.

Top seed Cheng Nga Ching wasted no time in booking her place in the women’s final as she comfortably defeated Malaysia’s Yiwen Chan in 25 minutes. The same can be said for her final opponent Sehveetrraa Kumar, who won in two minutes less than Ching as she beat Hong Kong’s Toby Tse 11-2, 11-8, 11-6.
