TTI Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open 2023: El Hammamy Makes it Back-To-Back Titles

3 December 2023

Hania El Hammamy is the TTI Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open 2023 women’s champion after Amanda Sobhy was forced to retire due to injury.

It wasn’t the way the Egyptian would have wanted to retain her title in Hong Kong, after U.S. No.1 Sobhy went down at 5-5 in the first game and was unable to continue.

It’s the 13th title of El Hammamy’s career and her second Platinum title of the season having scooped the QTerminals Qatar Classic back in September.

“Not great [in answer to how she’s feeling after the final],” El Hammamy said afterwards.

“I’ve never defended a title before and I’ve always wanted to do that but I never got the chance. This is definitely not the way I wanted it to be, defending my title.

“It’s devastating what happened on court – we were midway through the first game, it was very close and all of a sudden I see her [Amanda Sobhy] on the floor crying.

“It’s very sad, I feel bad and I don’t feel great, to be honest. It’s not a title I want to celebrate, but I want to wish her a speedy recovery.”

Result
[2] Hania El Hammamy (EGY) bt [3] Amanda Sobhy (USA) 3-0: 6-5 retired (10m)
